Being shot in the eyesss

So, yesterday Robert and I were talking about our experiences of getting our eyes checked. While we were discussing, we came to the conclusion that both of us were shot in the eyes with air! Basically what they do is tell you to place your chin on the chin rest. The next thing your know, THIS BIG BLAST OF AIR SHOOTS YOU IN THE EYESSSSSSSS!! It scared me so much. I thought I was going to go blind!!

Robert and I think that this is not necessary. Optometrists should not be allowed to shoot us in the eyes.

It should be considered cruelty to humanity .

Haha! That's so true. I thought we were looking into those things to test our sight, you know when they have little letters. But no!, they just had to blow that air into our eyes. Stupid Optometrists.

RE: WHAT IS THE NAME AND PURPOSE OF BLOWING AIR IN YOUR EYE?
September 30th, 2008 by Dr Joan Hansen
I recently had an eye exam where “air” was “shot” into the eyes. (An optometric assistant, not the optometrist, performed this exam). What is this eye exam for and what does it measure?
With thanks, Maria
ANSWER:
Maria, The “air” test is called a Non-contact Tonometer (NCT) and it measures the pressure in your eye. This test is one of the tests done to ensure that you do not have glaucoma. (Glaucoma is also known as the silent vision thief as it doesn’t always offer warnings or symptoms).
Many offices assign the usage of this instrument to staff as part of the pre-exam procedures. The Optometrist then uses this information along with other tests that s/he performs to determine whether or not your eyes are healthy.
I hope that this helps answer your question.
